Serving the Forest Lake and surrounding areas since 1999, North Lakes Academy provides a personalized learning environment designed to meet a wide variety of academic needs. With strong core subjects and a full complement of liberal arts courses, NLA provides quality learning in a responsive learning atmosphere.

Currently, we operate an elementary campus serving grades K–6 and a secondary campus serving grades 7–12, with approximately 460 students. We’re a safe and caring community, connecting learning with the environment and building curiosity and confidence from day one.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ​

• Minnesota short-call substitute teaching license or pilot substitute teaching license
  Availability during school hours, approximately 7:15 AM to 2:15 PM
  Ability to provide a safe, positive, and productive learning environment
  Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  Ability to adapt to different classrooms, grade levels, and instructional needs

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:​

• Previous teaching, substitute teaching, or classroom experience
  Valid Minnesota teaching license or substitute teaching certification
  Strong classroom management skills
  Experience working with students across a variety of grade levels
  Experience working with diverse student populations
  Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  Familiarity with school policies, procedures, and technology
  Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  Flexibility and reliability

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

North Lakes Academy Charter School is seeking experienced and reliable Substitute Teachers to provide classroom instruction on an as-needed basis. Substitutes are responsible for maintaining a structured and engaging learning environment while following lesson plans provided by the teaching staff.

North Lakes Academy is seeking reliable, flexible, and student-centered Substitute Teachers to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year. Substitute Teachers play an important role in supporting our students and staff by providing a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment when regular classroom teachers are absent.

At North Lakes Academy, we believe that strong relationships and a supportive school community make a difference for both students and staff. As a substitute, you’ll have the opportunity to work with students across a variety of grade levels and subjects while helping ensure that learning continues smoothly throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher

• Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment

• Provide instruction and support to students across a variety of grade levels and subject areas

• Manage classroom behavior using established school expectations and procedures

• Supervise students throughout the school day, including during transitions and other assigned duties

• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and administrators

• Adapt to different classrooms, grade levels, schedules, and student needs

• Follow North Lakes Academy policies, procedures, and emergency protocols

• Leave appropriate notes or feedback for the regular classroom teacher, when applicable

• Support a positive and inclusive school culture

• Other duties as assigned
