1:1 PARAPROFESSIONAL
JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION STATUS: Part-time, 32 hours per week
 

START DATE: 2026–2027 school year
 

COMPENSATION: $18.00–$24.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY

North Lakes Academy is seeking a caring, dependable, and patient 1:1 Paraprofessional to support a first-grade student throughout the school day. The paraprofessional will work closely with the classroom teacher and school staff to provide individualized academic, behavioral, social, and organizational support while helping the student build independence and successfully participate in the classroom environment.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide individualized 1:1 support to a first-grade student throughout the school day.

  • Assist the student with classroom activities, assignments, transitions, and daily routines.

  • Reinforce academic instruction and assist the student in accessing grade-level learning activities.

  • Support positive behavior and social-emotional development using strategies provided by the classroom teacher and school team.

  • Help the student develop independence, self-regulation, organization, and appropriate classroom behaviors.

  • Assist with transitions between classrooms, activities, lunch, recess, and other areas of the school.

  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher, special education staff, and other school personnel.

  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student information.

  • Provide supervision and support during classroom and school-wide activities.

  • Document and communicate relevant observations and concerns to appropriate staff.

  • Follow student-specific plans, accommodations, and directions provided by licensed staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Previous experience working with children preferred.

  • Experience working with students who require individualized academic or behavioral support is preferred.

  • Strong communication, patience, flexibility, and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with teachers and support staff.

  • Ability to remain calm, positive, and supportive in challenging situations.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to move throughout the school building and classroom as needed.

  • Ability to assist with student supervision and safety.

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.

  • Ability to respond appropriately to student needs and emergencies.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Paraprofessionals play a vital role in supporting both general education teachers and special education case managers by assisting with instructional activities, classroom management, and student engagement. They provide individualized support to students receiving special education services, helping to implement personalized learning plans, accommodations, and behavioral strategies.
