Math

Math Made Fun (Grades K-2)

The Math Made Fun curriculum is thoughtfully designed to fully align with the Minnesota State Academic Standards for Mathematics, ensuring comprehensive coverage of essential grade-level skills and concepts. Students engage with mathematical ideas through a balanced and engaging instructional approach that includes whole group lessons, targeted small group work, independent practice, and interactive math centers.

This curriculum emphasizes hands-on, experiential learning, allowing students to explore math through manipulatives, games, real-world problem solving, and visual models. These interactive elements promote a deeper conceptual understanding and foster a love for math.

Throughout the year, students build fluency and confidence in foundational areas such as number sense, operations, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and algebraic thinking, while also developing critical thinking and reasoning skills. Differentiated instruction ensures that all learners—whether they need enrichment or additional support—are challenged and supported at their level.

Math Expressions (Grades 3-5)

Math Expressions is a comprehensive, research-based mathematics curriculum designed to build a deep understanding of math concepts through a mastery-based approach. Aligned with state standards, this program supports all learners—from those who need additional support to those ready for enrichment—by combining the best of traditional instruction with innovative, visual, and hands-on strategies.

The curriculum focuses on explicitly teaching essential mathematical concepts, skills, and problem-solving strategies to improve student performance and confidence in math. Teachers introduce new content through clear, step-by-step instruction, modeling, and guided practice, gradually moving students toward independent mastery.

The program incorporates Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles across all levels, ensuring access and engagement for a diverse range of learning styles and abilities. Through its multi-sensory approach, Math Expressions keeps students actively engaged, making math both meaningful and fun.

English Language Arts

Open Resources EL Education English Language Arts (Grades K-6)

North Lakes Academy Language Arts program integrates rich, high-interest science and social studies content to foster both literacy development and content knowledge. Each unit is built around engaging, real-world topics that captivate students’ curiosity while providing meaningful contexts for reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Students grow as readers and writers while deepening their understanding of the world, learning to think critically, ask questions, and communicate effectively. The curriculum is grounded in research-based best practices and includes intentional support for English Language Learners (ELLs) and Multilingual Learners (MLLs) at every stage of instruction.

This integrated approach ensures that students not only meet grade-level literacy standards but also grow as informed thinkers, communicators, and global citizens.

Science

Little Science Thinkers (K-2)

The Little Science Thinkers curriculum is designed to spark curiosity and foster a deep understanding of the natural world. Through hands-on investigations, real-world connections, and phenomenon-based learning, students actively explore scientific concepts in meaningful ways. Each lesson integrates the Minnesota State Standards and promotes inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving. With built-in support for diverse learners and opportunities for collaboration, communication, and creativity, the Little Science Thinkers curriculum prepares students to think like scientists and engineers.

Science Alive (Grades 3-6)

Science Alive units are designed to immerse students in real-world problems, helping them make meaningful connections between scientific concepts and their everyday lives. Through hands-on investigations, students are encouraged to explore, explain, and make sense of natural phenomena, promoting deep, inquiry-based learning.

Each unit includes engaging engineering challenges that prompt students to apply the Engineering Design Process in a consistent, structured way. Students learn to define problems, develop and test solutions, and optimize their designs—all while directly applying the Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs) from the Minnesota Science Standards.
