INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION STATUS: Full-time
START DATE: Immediately
COMPENSATION: $100,000-130,000. The position is a full-time interim position with benefits included and potential to evolve into a permanent position. Compensation to be commensurate with experience.

NLA strives to provide a rigorous curriculum in a safe, small-school setting where we know each

student as an individual and meet them where they are – both to provide extra attention and

extra challenge. We create a learning environment where students can take ownership of their

school community through the many clubs, sports, and activities where they can play an active

role. We also deeply value our family-school partnership, environmental focus, and our caring

and dedicated staff who aid in the growth of the whole student.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

North Lakes Academy is seeking an interim Executive Director to serve as the leader of the

school and ensure its financial viability, enrollment growth, and overall organizational stability.

The Executive Director is the public face of the school and represents its interests both on and

off campus.

​

Operating under the policy direction of the School Board and in accordance with federal and

state laws, the Executive Director supports the Board by developing, refining, and implementing

guidance related to school finance, program planning, and educational program review.

The Executive Director is responsible for developing and executing strategies that strengthen

student recruitment and retention, enhance the school’s visibility, and drive sustainable

increases in enrollment.

The Executive Director also has the authority to specify required actions and define operational

procedures for the school. This work is carried out through strong leadership of school

employees, collaboration with community members, and effective system management that

advances student achievement, supports staff success, aligns with Board goals, and furthers

continuous improvement across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

  • Education Leader of the School:

    • Communicates vision/mission to school personnel, students, and community.

    • Oversees the K-12 academic program and application of implemented curriculum with the intention of achieving our academic and environmental education goals.

  • Financial Management:​

    • Works with the Board Finance Committee through the designated budgetary process, as outlined by policy to prepare the overall school budget and ensure expenditures are within limits approved by the school board.

    • Manage district finances in accordance with our Authorizer's performance framework.

  • Chief Operations Operator:

    • Implements policies of the school board and recommends actions and alternatives to the board.

    • Adheres to all school, authorizer, and state/federal policies and procedures.

    • Ensures full compliance in all operational areas.

    • Maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with our Authorizer.

    • Attends all board meetings as Ex Officio

    • Oversees student enrollment and recruitment

  • Staff Personnel Management:

    • Works with Building Leads to recruit and retain quality staff that embody NLA’s mission, vision, and values. recruitment plan and organize recruitment of personnel.

    • Manage, train, evaluate, and support building leads and administrative staff in their efforts to meet our academic and environmental education goals.

    • Oversees employee discipline consistent with Board policies and employment standards.

  • Facilities Management:

    • Prepares long and short-term plans for facilities and sites and oversees and implements policies in support of safe learning environments and school facilities.

  • Community Spokesperson:

    • Articulates educational programs and needs to the community through maintaining contact with local media and participation in school and community affairs.

    • Represents the school publicly in various community venues, programs, and events.

  • Student Support Services:

    • Works with Building Leads to implement policies and programs relating to behavior and discipline of students.

  • Organizational Management:

    • Provides leadership for the development of a systematic plan for continuous school improvement.

    • Embrace and improve upon our positive school culture that promotes appropriate student discipline, rapport with teaching staff, and support of parents.

  • Special Education and Title Programs:

    • Works with the Special Education Director to ensure compliance with the guidelines established by MDE and ensures implementation of administrative procedures for Special Education, Title I, and other programs consistent with federal law, state school law, and NLA guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minnesota teaching license and experience in student instruction is required.

  • Minnesota administrative license with at least three years of administration experience is required.

  • A Master's or Doctorate in Education or Educational Leadership is preferred.

  • Administrative training certificates preferred.

  • Refined administrative and organizational skills.

  • Comfort in the role of the chief spokesperson for the school at all times.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A vision for community-building and growth.​​
