JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION STATUS: Full-time
START DATE: 2025-2026 school year
COMPENSATION: $17.85–$20.40 per hour based on experience.

Serving the Forest Lake and surrounding areas since 1999, North Lakes Academy provides a personalized learning environment designed to meet a wide variety of academic needs. With strong core subjects and a full complement of liberal arts courses, NLA provides quality learning in a responsive learning atmosphere. Currently, we operate an elementary campus (grades K–6) and a secondary campus (grades 7–12) both in Forest Lake, serving a total of 405 students. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

College degree (associates degree or higher)
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-
Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
-
Ability to follow individualized behavior plans and support strategies
-
Patience, empathy, and a calm demeanor in challenging situations
-
Ability to collect behavioral data and assist with documentation
-
Basic knowledge of behavior management and child development principles
-
Ability to pass a background check and meet school district/state requirements
-
Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, depending on the position and experience. They may also need to be able to bend, twist, and lift frequently
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
-
Previous experience working in a school or educational setting
-
Experience supporting students with behavioral or emotional challenges
-
Training in crisis prevention, de-escalation techniques (Ukeru or Crisis Prevention Institute)
-
Familiarity with functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
-
Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, counselors, and special education staff
-
Experience using positive reinforcement and restorative practices
-
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Behavioral Paraprofessional plays an essential role in supporting students who need additional behavioral or emotional support to be successful in the school environment. This position works closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administration to proactively address student behavioral concerns, implement behavior intervention plans, monitor student progress, and provide one-on-one or small group support. The behavioral Para helps foster a positive and safe learning environment by modeling appropriate behavior, assisting with conflict resolution, and encouraging self-regulation skills.
