JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION STATUS: Full-time

START DATE: 2026–2027 school year
COMPENSATION: $40,800 – $60,626.65, based on experience

North Lakes Academy (NLA) is a K–12 charter school located in Forest Lake, Minnesota, approximately 25 miles north of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. NLA serves approximately 425 students in grades K–12 within a unified school community.

At all grade levels, NLA embraces small class sizes, personalized learning, and a diverse liberal arts education while fostering emotional intelligence and strong relationships between students, families, and staff.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

North Lakes Academy is seeking a qualified 6–12 Visual Arts Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. This position is responsible for creating an engaging, inclusive, and creative learning environment that encourages artistic expression, critical thinking, and student growth.

The ideal candidate is passionate about visual arts education and committed to helping students develop artistic skills, creativity, and confidence through a variety of art mediums and techniques while supporting the whole child.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging visual arts instruction aligned with district and state standards

  • Teach a variety of artistic techniques, media, and art history concepts to students in grades 6–12

  • Encourage creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking through hands-on projects and activities

  • Maintain an organized, safe, and positive classroom and studio environment

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners

  • Assess student progress through projects, portfolios, and classroom participation

  • Provide regular feedback to students and families regarding progress and performance

  • Collaborate with staff and participate in meetings and professional development opportunities

  • Organize and display student artwork throughout the school and at school events as appropriate

  • Supervise students and attend school events as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related field

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in Visual Arts or ability to obtain licensure

  • Strong understanding of secondary instructional practices and classroom management

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

  • Previous middle school or high school teaching experience preferred

  • Commitment to inclusive, student-centered learning
